Victory for Nicolas Misslin and BWT Lechner Racing at Monza
Nicolas Misslin set the highlight of the weekend for BWT Lechner Racing at the fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup France. At the classical F1 track in Monza he scored his second victory of the year in the Pro-Am category, dominating his class from start to finish. “The car was absolutely perfect today, we are somehow doing a lot better when the temperatures are a bit more moderate”, he was ever so happy after the win. “I was really able to control everything for the whole race and I am so glad to bring home this victory as a reward for the whole team for the hard work they had to do again after what happened yesterday.”
What the Frenchman was referring to was an unnecessary accident in the very final stages of Saturday´s race, where his car suffered quite some damage. He was then leading the Pro-Am class but was kicked out by Christophe Lappiere, who later received a 5-place-grid penalty for Sunday for his dangerous move. “I don´t know what he thought he was doing there”, Misslin was angry, “he was quite over-aggressive during the whole race already, but that was just too much...”
For JB Simmenauer it was a difficult weekend after a very good start on Friday, when he finished second and first in the two Free Practice sessions. On Saturday in a very close qualifying he had to put up with P4 for both races, not having been able to put in perfect laps with all three best sectors together.
In the first race, he also struggled at the start, didn´t get away very well and dropped back to P7 already during the first lap. “I felt there was a problem with the clutch”, he said later, after finishing 7th in the end in a rather action-filled race, having received a 3-second-penalty for not respecting track limits. On Sunday he had a much better start, even made up one place to P3 immediately, but then over the course of the race was not able to keep his position, dropping back to P7 until he finally had to retire due to his radiator losing water with about 10 minutes to go.
BWT Lecher Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch was happy about Misslin´s win: “He really deserved it, he showed a very strong performance – and he already had so much bad luck this year. We have to do some further analysis about JB´s race, as apart from the radiator problem he did´t have the speed to stay up with the guys in front today, while his sector times alone were quite good. It was not an easy weekend for us, but especially Nicolas still has a chance to defend his title from last year. And we have seen then how much can happen even on the final weekend.”
