Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Victory for Ayhancan Güven and BWT Lechner Racing – Pro-Am title for Nicolas Misslin
The sun was already close to setting in the Royal Park at Monza, when Ayhancan Güven from Team BWT Lechner Racing for the first time this season climbed the top step of the podium after winning the penultimate race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2021. “I am unbelievably happy that I finally was able to do it again. It took a bit too long for my impression – but now we got there and I am so glad I could give back something to the team. These guys always worked so hard, gave me so much support over the whole year, they really deserved it”, said the Turkish Porsche Junior.
Güven had already secured pole position in the morning and with a good start defended his lead against an attacking Larry ten Voorde on the way to the first chicane. “To keep the lead was decisive, after that I was able to control the race and to even slightly extend the gap until the finish line. It´s a great feeling to be on top again.”
His BWT Lechner Racing teammate JB Simmenauer had a great start from P24, already making up five places and finally finishing in P17 after a strong race. Bad luck literally hit Dylan Pereira, when Simone Iaquinta pushed him into the gravel already on lap 1. After dropping back to the end of the field, he was still able to make up ten positions and saw the chequered flag in P21.
While Tio Ellinas scored P11, his Lechner Racing Middle East teammate Nicolas Misslin secured the title in the Pro-Am category with his fifth class win in a row, finishing in P 18 in the general classification, ahead of quite a few Pro drivers: „For some reason I felt a little bit tired before the start, but the team was so motivated I managed to push really hard at the start while still being careful with the Pro drivers. From then on I was able to control the race with a very good rhythm. The car, the tyre pressures, everything was absolutely perfect. We are the 2021 champions! A big thank you to the team for their trust, to my engineer, my mechanics and all my supporters without whom I wouldn't be here! And a thought to my mum and Walter who I'm sure are very proud!”
Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch was ever so happy: „I already worked together with Nicolas last year in the French Porsche Carrera Cup, where we won the title. Repeating this in the Supercup was our great aim for this season – to have reached this goal is a fantastic achievement for him and the whole team.“
“It was a great day with two big successes to celebrate”, Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner showed his joy about the result. “Ayhancan really had a perfect day, securing pole in the right moment at the morning already laid the foundation for what was to come in the evening. Congratulations to him for a perfect race, where he never set one foot wrong, showed an impressive performance and gave the whole team another push to end the season on a high in the last race tomorrow (12.30 pm) as well.”
