Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Two Podiums for Lechner Racing at Spielberg
Two cars in the podium, four within the Top Ten – Austrian team principal Walter Lechner could be really happy with the outcome of the home race of his squad at the Red Bull Ring. Michael Ammermüller, winner of the first three Porsche Supercup races in 2017, this time finished second behind Australian Porsche youngster Matt Campbell, who had already secured pole position on Sunday. Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg managed to crown his best Supercup weekend so far in his career with his first podium finish.
Both Lechner drivers were ever so content with their result: "Establishing my Championship lead and even extending my advantage towards my closest rivals was my main goal during this race and I was able to achieve it", said Ammermüller, who is now on top of the driver´s Championship with 78 points. Pereira, who also set fastest lap of the race, was celebrating as well: "To be on the podium here for the first time at the home race of my team, which supports me so much, is a very special feeling."
Both Ammermüller and Pereira had been stuck behind Italian Mattia Drudi for quite some time, but with three laps to go they managed to squeeze by, just before the Safety Car had to come out briefly because Mark Radcliffe had gone off and was stuck in the gravel. With the green flag coming out again for just one more lap, the top positions where settled, while a little bit further behind Dennis Olsen still improved one position to P5 with Dan Cammish in P8 being the fourth Lechner driver within the Top Ten. "I am really proud of all my guys", Walter Lechner said afterwards. "Everybody did a great job today, including Ryan Cullen who made up some positions to finish in P13, Al Faisal Al Zubair, who again had a very clean race to P16 and our guest starter Sean Hudspeth from Singapore ending up on P19, ahead of quite a few more experienced guys!"
