Track Limits – the Word of the Day for Lechner Racing at the Hungaroring
There was one big opponent for the Lechner Racing drivers in qualifying for the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Hungaroring: “Track limits, that´s the word of the day”, Team Principal Robert Lechner stated. “But of course they are the same for everyone, so it´s nothing we should complain about. But it´s really annoying, as since the beginning of the season we come to the tracks well prepared, are able to show a good performance in free practice, we know that we have the speed – and then we can´t put it together in qualifying when it really counts. But everyone who knows us will also know that we are always highly motivated and go for full attack tomorrow in the race.”
BWT Lechner Racing driver Ayhancan Güven had two fast laptimes deleted due to track limit violations in his first outing, which meant he was only 30th when he started his final run. So he had to play it a little bit safe, not completely exploiting the limit, resulting in P5 on the grid for the Turkish Porsche Junior for tomorrow´s race. His teammate Dylan Pereira seemed to be on pole for a few seconds, but then had his laptime deleted as well for the same infringement, dropping back to P10, and was only able to improve to P7 in the final seconds of the session, the 24-year old from Luxembourg not being helped by traffic and a yellow flags. JB Simmenauer finished in P19, complaining again about steering problems, even having a completely new steering system built into his car overnight.
Tio Ellinas from Team Lechner Racing Middle East set a time that would have put him in P6, but this one was also deleted for the already well-known reasons, which meant a drop to P11. About the only driver not affected by the whole saga was his teammate Nicolas Misslin. The Frenchman claimed pole position in the Pro-Am category, “but while I am happy about the pole, I am still a bit disappointed with myself, as I lost four tenths in my fastest lap due to a big error. It is very hot, so it will be a very hard and long race, but an important step is done. I work very well with the team and my engineers, which I am very happy about, so thanks to everyone there!”
