Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Three Lechner Cars in the Top Five at Qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps

It was a good qualifying for the Lechner teams at Spa-Francorchamps for the seventh  round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020: With BWT Lechner Racing drivers Jaxon Evans and Dylan Pereira in P2 and P3 behind pole sitter Ayhancan Güven and rookie Leon Köhler in his MSG Porsche of Lechner Racing Middle East in P 5, the chances in all championships are kept open before the race on Sunday

Evans managed to improve his time significantly from his first to the second outing: “As I did not get a real push lap due to the rain yesterday, I maybe didn´t have complete confidence on the first fast lap, but in the second one it all came together, after we also had made a little change to the car”, the Porsche Junior from New Zealand stated. “I am really happy to be on the front row of the grid, it was very close. Now I hope I can score another podium finish tomorrow!”

Dylan Pereira had set the fastest time of the field with the first set of tyres, even with his fastest lap being deleted due to track limits. With the second set, he was not able to improve yet: “I was sure there was still a bit more to come, but I made a mistake in sector 3, got some understeer and lost a lot of time”, said the 23-year-old from Luxembourg. “It´s a bit of a pity, of  course it would have been better to start from pole like last year – and it was possible. But looking at the championship situation it is not too bad, as my main rival Larry Ten Voorde will start a few places behind me.”

Leon Köhler in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East managed a great result with P5, especially considering his very little  experience on this difficult track compared to most of his rivals: “The lap was quite good”, the young German was happy, but showing his perfectionism, at the same time admitted: “The next one would have even been better, but I slightly overdid it...”  His teammate JB Simmenauer ended up only 16th, having his fastest lap deleted due to track limits. “It was a bit of an unlucky situation, out of Blanchimont, there was a slow car ahead of me, it was not clear if he was going to give me room, so I had the alternative of either violating the track limits or risking a crash...“

French driver Nicolas Misslin , who again is  a guest driver for the team this weekend, finished in P19 and was rather content with his performance, being more than 1 second ahead of closest Pro-Am driver Roar Lindland: “I had good fun out there, I felt good in the car. I think I could have been even faster, but I  still made a few little mistakes. I just need a little bit more mileage to get it all perfectly together. But again a big thanks to Walter and the whole team for their confidence!”

Team principal Walter Lechner was not sure whether he should be completely happy with the result or not: “Of course having three cars in the Top Five is very good, and I have to say that Leon again did a great job as a near newcomer to this circuit. But even as it does not look too bad regarding the championship with Ten Voorde starting behind us, I am a little bit sad that Dylan did not manage to get pole, which clearly was possible. It would have made his life quite a bit easier tomorrow...”
