Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Six Champions Driving for Lechner Racing in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019

Six reigning or former champions of different Porsche Cup series – that´s the driver line-up for the six cars of the three  Lechner Racing Teams in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019.

In BWT Lechner Racing Michael Ammermüller, the 33-year-old Porsche Supercup Champion 2017 and 2018, will be joined by Julien Andlauer. The French Porsche Junior, who already gained a lot of experience in the different Porsche Cup series, will replace another Porsche Junior, Austrian Thomas Preining. Andlauer was  champion of the French Porsche Carrera Cup in 2017, in 2018 the 19-year-old already  took part  in the 2018 Porsche Supercup, finishing the season in P4.  While Ammermüller is of course at least dreaming about the triple, the Frenchman hopes to be able to challenge his teammate. “I know that it will be a very difficult task to defend my title again”, Ammermüller is fully aware of the challenge ahead of him. “And I know that my new teammate will probably be one of my hardest competitors.”   Andlauer himself values the praise of his ever so experienced and successful teammate: “Of course I appreciate that he already rates me high, but I think I can still learn quite a bit from his experience. Nevertheless I will still try to beat him, as you always have to as a racing driver”, he says with a little smile...

Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing will see Dylan Pereira joined by Tio Ellinas from Cyprus, the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain. 21-year-old Pereira from Luxembourg, last year´s Rookie Champion in the German Porsche Carrera Cup and seventh in the Porsche Supercup, knows he has to deliver even better this year:  “I have more experience by now and I hope I will be able to turn this into more podiums and my first Supercup wins...” His 27-year old teammate can already look back to a lot of experience in different motorsport categories. Ellinas took part in the GP3 series in 2012 and 2013, did a few races in GP2 in 2014  as well as the whole  Renault Formula 3.5 season in 2015 before turning to Porsche Cup Racing in 2017. “As it is my first year in the Supercup, I will have to learn quite a few things, including new tracks, but I hope that with the help of Walter and his great squad I will be able to adapt rather quickly to this new challenge.”

Team Lechner Racing Middle East will be led again by Al Faisal Al Zubair from Oman, who  just recently defended his title in the BWT Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. The 21-year-old has already announced that his third Supercup season will be his last before moving to other challenges in motor racing. “But of course I hopefully will be able to use all the experience I gained so far to reach my best results ever in the Supercup this year.”  He will be joined by Saul Hack, the current Middle East Silver champion. The 27-year old South African, who once was a member of the national swimming team of his home country and joined professional  motorsports rather late, is looking forward to a year of developing his racing skills even further in such a professional series as the Porsche Supercup:  “For sure I can learn a lot here, which will help me as well during the next winter when I plan to race at home in South Africa and also in the Middle East again.”

“We are expecting a very, very  competitive season again. We are well prepared, but we know that all our competitors in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup are aiming to finally beat us in the title race after we succeeded for three years in a row now in the driver´s and team championship”, team principal Walter Lechner is looking forward to the new challenge. “Of course we are aiming for podiums and race wins again - but to win the title you always need a little bit of luck as well. So for sure we take nothing for granted...”

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2019 will start in at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona at the weekend from the 10th to 12th of May, with a total of ten races at nine different events. The final weekend will be again the double header in Mexico City at the end of October.
