Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Second row for BWT Lechner Racing and Ayhancan Güven at Zandvoort

After the wet weekend at Spa, BWT Lechner Racing and the whole Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup again faced rather challenging conditions during the debut of the series at the circuit of Zandvoort in the Dutch dunes. With 21 degrees, sunshine, but a rather strong wind consistently blowing sand on different parts of the track and heavy traffic of the 32 cars on the only 4.259 km short, tight circuit, finding the right moment to set a proper laptime was essential.

Both recently so successful  BWT Lechner Racing drivers, who had scored a one-two victory at Spa, mastered this task very well from the beginning.  Ayhancan Güven managed to make it up to P3 on the grid with a strong lap on his second outing, even as he was fighting with deteriorating track conditions: “I was fastest in the first sector, but when I came to the final part of the track, there was already a lot of sand everywhere, so I lost out a bit. Nevertheless I was one of the few drivers who improved on his second set of tyres”, said the Turkish Porsche Junior. “I think front row would have been in reach, but I will attack from P3 as well. If I have a good start like last weekend, everything is still possible.”

Dylan Pereira, winner of the historic 300th  Supercup race at Spa last week, also seemed to be on his way to the front row of the grid, when he got caught out in the final sector of what was meant to be his fastest lap. “Maybe due to the sand on the track  I slightly got into the gravel – and that was it, you only have one really fast lap at Zandvoort”, the 24-year-old from Luxembourg was a bit disappointed. After his first outing, he had still been on P2 and before his little mistake was only 15 thousands behind pole sitter Laurin Heinrich.

Third BWT Lechner Racing driver JB Simmenauer had to put up with P22, after “having worked onto the wrong direction set-up wise between the two runs”, as the young Frenchman admitted.

“Conditions were not easy today, so I think we again showed a strong team performance”, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner stated. “While overtaking is not easy here, with good starts both Ayhancan und Dylan will still have a good chance to fight at least for the podium and important points tomorrow, so we are looking forward to the race.”
