Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Pole Position for Julien Andlauer and BWT Lechner Racing in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Home Race
BWT Lechner Racing driver Julien Andlauer secured pole position for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg/Austria, two tenth ahead of Larry ten Voorde and MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing driver Dylan Pereira in P2 and P3.
BWT Lechner Racing drivers Julien Andlauer and Michael Ammermüller, the 33-year-old Porsche Supercup Champion 2017 and 2018, seemed to be battling out pole position between them during the first outing, with Ammermüller just 17thousands of a second ahead of the the French Porsche Junior. But then the Bavarian did not go out again to safe a completely new set of tyres for the race, dropping back to P4 as a result. “It´s a bit of a gamble, hopefully it will play out as planned tomorrow...” Andlauer was of course very happy about his pole position: “I got quite a good lap together with the second set of tyres. Of course it´s a nice basis for tomorrow. We have three Lechner cars in the two front rows, so chances for a victory in our home race don´t seem to be too bad...”
Dylan Pereira was also very content about P3: “It was very, very close there in the front, but I did a good lap and I really hope for a good race as well now”, said the 21-year old from Luxembourg. In the last minute of the session, Tio Ellinas, his MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing teammate, seemed to be on a good way to improve significantly in his final lap, but lost out on the last sector due to traffic and was stuck in P14.
Team Lechner Racing Middle East´s Al Faisal Al Zubair from Oman, who with his performances contributed to the Supercup races now being live on free TV in the Middle East, finished in P11 and received some extra praise from team principal Walter Lechner. “His performance deserves some special recognition as due his recent exams he is the only driver who could not test at all on this track, which is quite a disadvantage. So he did a great job, he get´s better and better in adapting to different track conditions and get the best out of it.” His South African teammate Saul Hack classified in P21, JB Simmenauer, a guest starter with the team this weekend, in P19.
“Having won the first two races in Barcelona with Julien and in Monaco with Michael, we know of course that we cannot take it for granted that this series will continue”, Walter Lechner admitted. “But to be honest, winning our home race here of course would be something very special, so if I could choose, I would rather trade in a win somewhere else for one here tomorrow.”
The third race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 at the Red Bull Ring will start at 12.15 pm on Sunday, live on Eurosport and Sport1.
