Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Pole Position for Dylan Pereira and BWT Lechner Racing at Austrian Home Race
First pole position of the year for BWT Lechner Racing at their Austrian home race at Spielberg: In qualifying for the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring, Dylan Pereira set the fastest time, three hundredth of a second of Jaxon Evans and the second BWT Lechner Racing driver Ayhancan Güven, who only missed out the front row of the grid by less than sixth hundredth.
In an incredibly close and dramatic final of the session, Pereira, runner-up of last year´s championship, kept it all together, was able to improve twice and finally was ever so happy to have claimed pole position: “It´s a fantastic way to come back after two very difficult weekends for me. Together with everyone in the team, we put a lot of effort into getting our act together and it worked out perfectly”, the 24-year old from Luxembourg was beaming all over his face. “My last two laps were really close to perfect, which of course also gives a real boost to your self-confidence. Now I just hope the race tomorrow will go the same way. I need a good start – then everything is possible.”
His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Ayhancan Güven also seemed to be on his way to the front row of the grid, with an absolute best middle sector on his last lap at the very end, but then hit traffic, “which was a bit annoying of course, as I think even pole was in reach. But there are still a lot of chances tomorrow from P3 if I get a good getaway”, the Turkish Porsche Junior, who finished second last weekend, still stayed very confident. JB Simmenauer was stuck in P19 when he could not improve in the final minutes of the session, being also impeded not only once by yellow flags due to different incidents around the track.
Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch was relieved about the result: “Of course this was very important for everybody within the team. We all worked very hard and now we got a first reward after a difficult and challenging time. Thanks to everyone, including the drivers who did a great job today.”
Tio Ellinas from Team Lechner Racing Middle East had to be content with P13 after some more troubles with track limits, while his teammate Nicolas Misslin fulfilled his promise from last week, when he claimed to have learned a lot to put into practice for the second weekend. He was fastest of the Pro-Am category, four tenth ahead of his closest competitors. “I understood the behaviour or the car in hot track conditions much better”, said the Frenchman. “Hadn´t it been for the yellow flags there would have even been a little bit more possible in the end. But what really matters is of course tomorrow.”
Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner couldn´t hide his joy about the great day for the team: “It´s just great to claim our first pole position of the year here at our home track at Spielberg. It was also a very important pole for Dylan, who had a rather difficult time and a lot of bad luck the last two races. He did everything right today, from positioning himself on the track due to tyre management in these dramatic last minutes of the session. You can´t come back any better and more impressive. Congratulations to him, but also to Ayhancan Güven, who was on the same level, but got hampered by traffic. Thanks to the whole team and our Team Manager Michael Schöch for a great job. It´s our best qualifying result this year so far – a great basis for a good race tomorrow, so fingers crossed!”
