Pole Position for Andlauer and BWT Lechner Racing in First Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 Qualifying

Julien Andlauer from BWT Lechner Racing claimed pole position in the first qualifying of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2019 at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, ahead of Ayhancan Güven from Turkey and reigning Supercup champion Michael Ammermüller.

Andlauer immediately set the fastest time in the 30-minute session with a 1:47.869, followed by Güven and his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Ammermüller in P3. With the second set of tyres, heavy traffic made improvements very difficult, so in the end the order on top remained unchanged. Andlauer, the French Porsche Junior, was really happy about his pole position: “I felt quite good in the car already yesterday and I am glad everything came together again today when it really counted. Now I am looking forward to the race. A good start will be important to be able to fight for the win.”  Ammermüller, winner here in Barcelona last year, is quite confident as well: “Maybe I did not put in the absolute perfect lap today, but our pace is good, so we will see what will be possible tomorrow.”

Tio Ellinas from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing made it to P4, the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain from Cyprus really making a big impression in his first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race weekend, finishing just a few hundredth behind Ammermüller.  His teammate, 21-year-old Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg ended up in P7, just ahead of Team Lechner Racing Middle East´s Al Faisal Al Zubair from Oman in P8. Saul Hack, like Ellinas a Supercup newcomer, finished in P18. “It was a pity that I could not improve on my second run, I did not really get a clear lap. But in general it is a great thing for me to drive here in this highly professional series, such a different world from anything else I have done so far”, the South African was rather impressed.

Team principal Walter Lechner was of course content with the result: “Of course it is nice to have five of our cars within the Top 8 and to claim pole position at the start of the season. But we still have to confirm our good form in the race tomorrow. Congratulations to Julien, he is doing a great job from the very beginning and already shows a lot of maturity even at his young age.”

The first race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 at the Circuit de Catalunya will start at 12.35 pm on Sunday (live on Eurosport).
