Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Podium Finish for Dylan Pereira and BWT Lechner Racing at Spielberg

There was reason to celebrate again for BWT Lechner Racing, when Dylan Pereira claimed his first podium finish of the 2021 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Season, finishing second behind Jaxon Evans at the team´s home race at Spielberg. With Tio Ellinas in P6 and JB Simmenauer in P8, two more Lechner Racing cars finished in the Top Ten, but losing another podium position for Ayhancan Güven due to a blown tyre with just one lap to go was a big disappointment.

BWT Lechner Racing driver Pereira managed to end his streak of bad luck during the first two Supercup weekends: “It's about time,”  said the Luxembourger, who started from pole position and initially stayed in the lead: “The start wasn't perfect, but it was still okay. I don't know exactly what happened to the brakes in the next two corners, but they felt completely different from those in qualifying and I had to adjust the brake balance a bit. Anyway, I locked up, I went off the track for a moment and lost some ground.” However, Pereira quickly fought his way back past reigning champion Larry ten Voorde, was able to hang in the slipstream of leader Evans, but also had to deal with vibrations:  “As  a result, the power steering also failed in the second phase of the race, which of course didn't make it any easier. In this respect, I can be very satisfied with the result. I hope that it will continue like this in the future.”

Ayhancan Güven, starting from P3, lost one position against ten Voorde at the getaway, but the Turkish Porsche Junior fought his way back and was on a clear podium course when his left rear tyre let go with just one lap to go. “His bad luck is unbelievable”, Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch stated. “First a technical problem hit him with one lap to go in Monaco and now this here. Difficult to say what happened, it was the classical puncture, maybe some debris on the track. The team had worked so hard, we really were fast today, had a great race performance with all cars, we don´t deserve this at all.”  The third BWT Lechner Racing driver, JB Simmenauer made good use of this race speed, making it up from P19 to P8: “During the first laps I was able to stay out of a lot of the trouble around me, it was quite chaotic, sometimes there were cars all over the place, but I managed to avoid any incidents and improve my position already a bit, and I also was able to do some overtaking, so in general it was quite a good race.”

Tio Ellinas from Team Lechner Racing Middle East also showed a great race performance, making it from P15 on the grid to P6 in the end. “So we are in the right way”, the 29-year-old from Cyprus was convinced. “So the only thing I need now is a better qualifying in the next races.” His teammate Nicolas Misslin brought home a rather unchallenged win in the Pro-Am category, even being caught up in a little bit of a typical midfield in the  beginning: “I am really glad that for once everything came together and I could make use of all the hard work we have done together over the last weeks. It´s great to be on the top step of the podium at the home race for Lechner racing and to keep my championship chances alive”, said the Frenchman.

Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner did not hide his mixed feelings: “Of course it would have been nice to have won our home race. When you start from pole and don´t claim the victory, there is always a slight feeling of disappointment, but on the other hand Dylan did a good job to get back to P2 after his off. We still have to investigate what happened there. And we all know how difficult it is to overtake with these cars if the driver in front of you has about the same speed and does not make a mistake. What was a real blow for us was the incredible bad luck that hit Ayhancan Güven again after Monaco, which is also a harsh back-set for the team championship. But on the other hand I have to say the race performance of our cars and drivers was really promising, so a big thank you to everybody in the team. We leave our home race with a lot of confidence that we will be able to fight for top positions again for the rest of the season.”
