One-Two Victory for BWT Lechner Racing in Second Race at Sachsenring
Another one-two victory for BWT Lechner Racing, the fifth of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany season 2018, and the eight win for Thomas Preining, the seventh that was rewarded with points: Sunday´s race at the Sachsenring could rather have provided a better result for the Austrian squad.Preining again won the start from pole position and led from start to finish. Even a safety-car period of two laps after Andreas Sczepansky had dumped his car into a gravel bed did not put him in real danger: “Of course I had to stay very concentrated as I knew that Michael would probably try to attack me at the re-start. But I managed to control the situation well and not only win the race, but also put me in a very good position in the fight for the Driver´s Championship.”
The 20-year old Austrian will go into the final of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at Hockenheim in two weeks´ time with a 27-points lead towards his teammate Michael Ammermüller. The decision about the driver´s title will only be between the two BWT Lechner Racing guys – Larry ten Voorde, currently in third place, is already too far behind to still have even a theoretical chance.
Ammermüller, starting from the front row besides Preining again, this time defended his position at the start a bit more aggressively: “After the experience yesterday, where I lost a few positions, I decided to not give room to anybody at the start as well – and it worked, I kept my second place. I was able to follow Thomas, but I did not have enough speed to really attack him, so in the end I had to settle in P2.”
Dylan Pereira from Team Lechner Racing again had to start from the back of the field after his qualifying spin and the following gearbox troubles. After a good start and some overtaking, the 21-year-old from Luxembourg finished in P11 and still has the chance to win the Rookie Championship at the season´s final in two weeks’ time.
Team principal Walter Lechner, watching the race from home in Austria, was content with the result: “Again our team and drivers did a very good job. Another one-two is a great achievement and it´s a good feeling to know that we can go to the two final races of the season already knowing that one of our BWT Lechner Racing drivers will win the Championship. Of course Thomas, who showed great form and consistency over the last months, is in a better position now, but both drivers will have full and equal support from us in the final, as it was and is always the attitude of our team.”
