One-two Victory for BWT Lechner Racing at 300th Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Race

BWT Lechner Racing claimed an impressive one-two victory at the historic 300th race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. At the classic track of Spa-Francorchamps, Dylan Pereira secured his first win of the season ahead of his teammate Ayhancan Güven. Under very difficult conditions due to the continuous heavy rain, Pereira laid the basis for his success already at the very beginning of the race. Directly after the start, he attacked pole-sitter Larry ten Voorde, positioning himself beside him at the exit of La Source, the two going side by side down to Eau Rouge, with the 24-year-old from Luxembourg finally having the upper hand uphill.

“It was a very, very strong manoeuvre, he pulled it through, taking some risk of course, but that´s what you have to do if you want to go for the win”, Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner was impressed by his driver. “I am very happy today, this result is a great reward for the whole team after a challenging time during the last months. It shows how our focus and hard work paid off – we are still the old team that is able to win races. I am really proud of the guys, many thanks to everyone involved, especially of course to the drivers. Dylan did absolutely everything right today and also Ayhancan showed a great performance, came up to P2 with a great start and then showed his extreme speed today with a few fastest laps, but also had the maturity to think about the team result in some key moments.”

Three Safety-Car periods due to some incidents in the tricky conditions didn´t make it easy for the drivers, but both Pereira and Güven kept their nerves and brought the fantastic team result home. “It was really a great race, the car was very good in the wet, I think, we found quite a good set-up for these circumstances”, said an ever so happy Pereira. “I also could make use of my Spa experience, I knew that having the outside line through Eau Rouge would be an advantage, it is the faster line later uphill – and it worked out! It is a very special victory for me, I would like to dedicate it to Walter Lechner sr.  I have been part of this team for a long time now, I owe Walter a big part of my career, learned so much from him over the years – so this one is for him!”

Turkish Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven also could be very content with his performance and the important points scored. “I had a very good start, coming up from P6 to P2 immediately, and my pace in the race was really strong as well. It was close with Dylan again, but it looks like we are really the two dominating guys here. It is the third time in a row now that we finish one-two here. 2019 he won ahead of me, last year it was the other way round – and now he was able to turn it around again.”

The third BWT Lechner driver, JB Simmenauer, was able to make use of the chaos by staying out of any troubles and so  moving up 11 places to P15 at the chequered flag, but was especially happy for the team: “It is really great to be part of such a fantastic squad, congratulations to Dylan and Ayhancan, they really drove a strong race.”

Tio Ellinas from Team Lechner Racing Middle East also made up a few places, finishing in P10 after starting from P15 on the grid. “It was a crazy race, with a lot of spray – after turn 1, it was nearly impossible to see anything. Luckily I was able to make some good moves after the second Safety Car, when it got quite chaotic again in the midfield, so I was able to gain a few positions.”

His teammate Nicolas Misslin  extended his championship lead in the Pro-Am category with a second win in a row, dominating his class: “I had a very good rhythm, the car was really good and I like these conditions. After the second Safety Car I was focusing on controlling my direct class competitors, as I want to win the championship and not take any unnecessary risks on the last lap. Many thanks to the team and to my engineer who always made the right decisions this weekend.”
