One-Two for BWT Lechner Racing at Nürburgring
Team BWT Lechner Racing crowned a great weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at the sprint circuit of the Nürburgring with a one-two victory: Austrian Thomas Preining scored his fourth win of the season, two seconds ahead of his teammate Michael Ammermüller. “The most important moment again was the start”, said the Porsche Junior, “when I was able to take the lead again from pole position I knew I was in a very good position. Winning the last four Carrera Cup races in a row is a great feeling. I think now I can even have a look at the championship again, even after my bad start into the season at Oschersleben...”
Ammermüller, starting from P3, immediately tried to challenge his teammate: “I had a very good start, was able to pass van Lagen in the first corner, I was even close to Thomas, but from three to one is sometimes a bit too much. Then it was difficult to follow him, he really had a good speed today again, but I am happy with P2”, the Bavarian, who is still leading the Championship by nine points ahead of Preining, stated.
Dylan Pereira and Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer from Team Lechner Racing had a difficult task ahead, starting from P15 and P16. But especially Pereira seemed to be on his way to make it into the Top Ten again, when trying to overtake Gustav Malja for P10 ended with the Swedish driver defending himself very harsh, pushing the 21-year-old from Luxembourg off the track. “At least I was able to come back and still score some important points. But I hope for a better qualifying and then better races next week”, said Pereira, who in the end finished in P12, just ahead of Simmenauer.
“I am really glad that we did such a great job this weekend”, said Walter Lechner jr., who was leading the team and also taking the team trophy on the podium on Saturday. “Dad was celebrating his birthday at home and we were able to give him some nice presents.”
