Michael Ammermüller Supercup Champion again – Roar Lindland wins ProAm Title

Michael Ammermüller of BWT Lechner defended his Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Title in the last race of the 2018 season, while  Roar Lindland of Team Lechner Racing Middle East won the ProAm Championship – it could not have been a better end of the season for Lechner Racing in Mexico.  “Having achieved all our goals here is a fantastic feeling”, Austrian team principal Walter Lechner was over the moon. “Congratulations to Michael and Roar, who showed a very mature and professional performance today, confirming the great job they did over the whole season.”

32-year-old Ammermüller started from pole position, but Frenchmen Julien Andlauer got the best getaway,  with  the German  following in P2, while his BWT Lechner teammate Thomas Preining  got involved in some close fighting which resulted in him leaving the track – for what he received a three-second-penalty for gaining an advantage.  On lap 3, Yelloly overtook Ammermüller, who willingly opened the door to the Brit, lying nine points behind him,  as he did when  Preining passed him on lap five,  already being informed by the pitwall about his teammates penalty. Preining then started to chase Yelloly and overtook  him on lap 10, but the young Austrian did not manage to make up for the three-second-penalty, so even crossing the line in P2, he was only classified fourth behind Andlauer, Yelloly and Ammermüller in the end.

“I knew exactly what I had to do today – which was to secure the title”, the old and new champion Ammermüller, who finally finished seven points ahead of Yelloly, stated after the race. “Communications with the pitwall also worked very well, so I knew I just had to follow close to Thomas and Nick to be on the podium and finish the championship in good style. Of course it feels great to win this fantastic and highly competitive series for the second time in a row. Many thanks to BWT Lechner Racing for their great support over the whole year.

Roar Lindland did not have the best start, which meant he dropped back behind Nicolas Misslin and Mark Radcliffe, his class rivals.  But even being clearly faster than Radcliffe, the Norwegian decided to take it easy and settle for P3 in class, securing his title with an advantage of four points ahead of Misslin: “I have been racing for so long, always trying to win an important title – and now I finally did it. It feels ever so great – I can´t even describe all my emotions yet”, the 41-year old, who runs his family´s construction business together with his brothers. “Coming into Walter´s team this year for sure was a very significant step in my career, they are so strong and so professional, I  still learned a lot with them and improved as a driver. But they are also a fantastic bunch of people on the human side – thanks for this as well!”

Lindland´s Team Lechner Racing Middle East teammate Philip Hamprecht finished the race in P14, while MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing drivers Dylan Pereira and Josh Webster ended the 2018 season in P9 and P11 respectively.

Walter Lechner could not conceal his happiness and relieve after all was over: “It was our third Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup team and driver title now in a row – but even as it might look easy from the outside sometimes, I can assure everybody that it is not. You fight for the whole season, then you have to wait seven weeks between Monza and Mexico. You come here, everything is still open, can go either way, the tension is extremely high, building up more and more until it is really done. So now of course it´s great joy for everybody in the team, but especially for me it´s also a feeling of finally being able to relax a bit. Maybe it will take a few hours or even days until I can fully enjoy what we have achieved this year.”
