Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Michael Ammermüller says Good Bye to Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

He won the last three Porsche Supercup titles, was part of the series and Lechner Racing since 2012  - now Michael Ammermüller says good bye to the championship that brought him so much joy and success. “It was not an easy decision, and at the beginning of the year  I planned to do the ADAC GT Masters as well as the Supercup with BWT Lechner Racing”, the 34-year-old Bavarian stated. “But now, due to the new schedules, it is not possible to do it any more, as there are too many date clashes, so I had to go for one Championship. For sure it is not easy to leave the Supercup and Walter, his great team and also BWT after so many fantastic years and common experiences.”

Team principal Walter Lechner looks back to eight great years of cooperation with Ammermüller: “We always had a great relationship, he was an important part of the team, and also a friend. For example, in all those years, there was never a written contract between us. We just met once in winter, most times in my little mountain chalet, and sealed a deal just by a handshake. That was all we needed.”

Ammermüller started with Lechner Racing in 2012 in the Supercup and did also many successful seasons in the German Porsche Carrera Cup with the team: “He never had it easy, as he always had very strong teammates, like René Rast, Nicky Thiim, Sven Müller or Porsche Juniors like Thomas Preining and Julien Andlauer”, states Lechner, “and as we never have team orders, he always had to fight it out on the track, also in the last years, when he was already the reigning Supercup champion.” Ammermüller himself emphasizes the huge impact of his long time race engineer Franzi Maier on his career: “Franzi and I had the perfect working partnership. There was always  a fantastic mutual understanding between us – both on the technical and the human side.”

Lechner wishes “Michael all the best for his GT Masters season, which I will closely follow – and for sure our friendship will always stand, even if we don´t see each other that often any more.” Ammermüller on the other hand will always keep an eye on Lechner Racing´s progress in the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: “I thank Walter and the whole team for our fantastic time together and I keep my fingers crossed that they will be able to win the title again this year and keep the number 1 for the future.”
