Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Michael Ammermüller in P3 best of Five Lechner Cars in the Top Ten at Monza
Michael Ammermüller and Dennis Olsen in P3 and P4 continued their close fight for the Porsche Supercup title 2017 already during free practice for the penultimate race weekend of the season at the Autodromo Nazionale at Monza, the fastest circuit of the year with cars reaching up to 280 kph at the end of the start-finish-straight.
While Australian Matt Campbell set the fastest time with 1:50, 552 in the very last minutes of the session ahead of Zaid Askanani, Ammermüller who had been in the lead for quite some time before, had already come back to the pits: "The car is good again, well balanced, I feel rather comfortable – so there was no reason for taking any more risks today in the often quite hectic last minutes." Team Principal Walter Lechner was content so far, emphasizing that "as much a close fight for the drivers´ Championship until the last races at Mexico is in the interest of the sport, I would not mind securing at least the team title for us already here at Monza."
With Dan Cammish, Dylan Pereira, who had a little off into the gravel once, but managed to recover the car, and Austrian guest starter Thomas Preining in P8, P9 and P10, Lechner Racing again ended up with five cars in the Top Ten. Even as Preining like already in Hungary is just using the Lechner entry, while his car is prepared by the Konrad team he is also racing for in the German Porsche Carrera Cup.
Talking about guest starters, it is worth mentioning that Sean Hudspeth, who was actually planned to race again at Monza, had to withdraw from the weekend due to health reason. So Lechner Racing lended the car to Philip Morin and the Martinet by Almeras team, after the Swede had his car destroyed in a heavy crash last weekend at Spa: "I really have to say thank you to Walter and his squad for helping us out this way", he said after finishing in P13.
