Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Michael Ammermüller and BWT Lechner Racing Win Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Monaco
For the second time in three years, Michael Ammermüller of BWT Lechner Racing is the winner of the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race at Monaco. Already on the top step of the podium in 2017 and runner-up in 2018, the 33-year old from Bavaria led from the start to the finish line ahead of Mikkel Pedersen from Denmark and Larry ten Voorde from the Netherlands. With his victory, he crowned another great team result for Lechner Racing with four cars within the Top Ten.
Ammermüller won the start from pole position, always a very good basis for winning here in Monaco where overtaking is ever so difficult, but it was never an easy task for him: “Of course it is great to score victory here again, but it was a hard race. Mikkel was always close to me, I never managed to get more than an advantage of about one second. So I was always under pressure not to make the slightest mistake, always keep concentration on a maximum level. And of course a safety car is not what you really want in this situation.”
The safety car on lap 12 in an otherwise rather calm and quiet race for Monte Carlo standards was caused by Dylan Pereira from MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing, who lost his car in St. Devote after slightly touching the barriers on the inside first. Just behind him, Julian Andlauer from BWT Lechner Racing was just able to avoid hitting the 21-year-old from Luxembourg: “I was a bit lucky I was in a position to see it developing and avoiding his car”, said the French Porsche Junior, who was not too happy about P7: “But for me all was already lost in qualifying, when I missed out pole position for about 30 meters, when the red flag came out and had to start from P7 instead. It´s nothing new that under normal circumstances it´s nearly impossible to make up lost ground here in the race.”
Behind Andlauer, second MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing driver Tio Ellinas from Cyprus finished in P8, with Al Faisal Al Zubair of Lechner Racing Middle East in P10 being the fourth Lechner car within the Top Ten. For his teammate Saul Hack P15 was quite a good achievement at his first appearance ever at the legendary track. “I lost one place at the start, but then I was able to do a clean race without mistakes, keeping my position and staying out of trouble, so I guess it´s not too bad for my first time here”, the 27-year-old South African stated.
Team Principal Walter Lechner was of course ever so happy about the victory: “It´s always great to win here at Monaco, this race is really a highlight of the season for all of us. Michael again showed a great performance, he always kept his cool, did everything right and performed like the two times Supercup champion he is. Dylan unfortunately made a little mistake that cost him dearly – and with all our other cars we achieved what was possible from our qualifying positions, so all in all it was really a good weekend.”
