Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Michael Ammermüller and BWT Lechner Racing End Porsche Supercup Season with Another Win
The last race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2019 could not have gone any better for Michael Ammermüller. Having already claimed his third Supercup title in a row already on Saturday, he now won his forth race of the season at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, emphasizing his outstanding role in this championship. Behind the BWT Lechner Racing driver, Ayhancan Güven and Jaxon Evans finished in P2 and P3, just ahead of Dylan Pereira from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing.
Ammermüller, starting from pole position, again took it a little bit easy in the beginning, when Güven took the lead, but on lap 4 was able to pass his Turkish rival safely and from then on continuously extended his lead to nearly seven seconds when the chequered flag came out after 16 laps. “It was great fun driving today, without any pressure, just doing the best I could, really enjoying myself out there”, the 33-year-old Bavarian was very relaxed. “I also would like to take the opportunity to thank everybody in BWT Lechner Racing and especially Walter for another great year. All my achievements would not be possible without their fantastic support over such a long time now.”
Julien Andlauer, the second BWT Lechner Racing driver, finished in P5 and third in the overall classification: “Of course I am not perfectly happy with the outcome. I had a very hard fight with Pedersen for P3 for two thirds of the race, and then, when I had already passed him, he pushed me from behind – maybe he lost his car a bit, I don´t really know. But the result was that Evans and Pereira could pass both of us.”
Dylan Pereira then tried everything to attack Jaxon Evans in the fight for the last place on the podium: “In the last lap I tried braking a little bit later than normal, but it was a bit too much and I rather outbraked myself, so I could not make it. But P4 is not too bad.” His MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing teammate Tio Ellinas dropped from P8 on the track to P11 in the final classification due to a five second time penalty for violating track limits, after also losing a big chunk of his rear bodywork rather early in the race in one of the hard midfield fights.
Al Faisal Al Zubair from Team Lechner Racing Middle East finished in P12, his teammate Saul Hack in P16 after having lost many places in the usual chaos at the start, but then making up a lot of ground again: “I don´t know why there always has to be such a mess in the midfield in the beginning, but at least I was able to perform some nice overtaking afterwards”, the South African stated.
Team principal Walter Lechner was grateful for another great season of his squad: “We had a great year again defending our titles in a series that is getting more and more competitive over the years, winning seven out of the nine races that counted in the end. I would like to thank all the people in our teams, all our drivers and also our partners and sponsors, especially BWT, for their great performance, the effort the put into this project day after day. They all are the basis of our long lasting success, without them none of this would be possible.”
