Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Great Start for Lechner Racing in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 Free Practice at Home Race
The first free practice of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg/Austria turned out to be a really promising start for the Lechner Racing teams, with a Top Three sweep and four drivers finally ending up in the Top 7.
BWT Lechner Racing drivers Julien Andlauer and Michael Ammermüller, the 33-year-old Porsche Supercup Champion 2017 and 2018, were battling out the fastest time of the session between them, with the French Porsche Junior finally having the better of it, being the only driver to beat the 1:31-minute barrier with a 1:30, 945 in the end. “I came here with a good feeling after winning the second Porsche Carrera Cup here three weeks ago”, said Andlauer, “and of course it is nice to be fast again from the beginning, it was a good start for all of us. The track was quite slippery and it is really hot in the cars, under this conditions it´s not so easy to do a perfect lap. Now I have to put everything together again tomorrow in qualifying, which is not too easy with 30 cars on such a rather short track and therefore a lot of traffic.” For Ammermüller, winner of the last Porsche Supercup race at Monaco, it was also a good start into the weekend: “The car felt good from the beginning, so it looks quite promising so far. Ofcourse it would be a dream come true to be at the top of the podium again here at our home race just after Monte Carlo.”
In the last minute of the session, Tio Ellinas from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing made it to P3, the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain finally being able to put three good sector times together without being held up somewhere. His teammate, 21-year-old Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg, last year´s Rookie Champion in the German Porsche Carrera Cup ended up in P7. Team Lechner Racing Middle East´s Al Faisal Al Zubair from Oman finished in P14, his South African teammate Saul Hack in P17 and JB Simmenauer, a guest starter with the team this weekend, in P18.
“Of course, it is nice to have a good start into the weekend at our home race”, Austrian team principal Walter Lechner was rather happy. “But we know that what really counts is qualifying tomorrow and the race, so we will have to be completely focussed to put in a strong performance again there.”
Qualifying for the third race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 at the Red Bull Ring will will start at 1.25 pm on Saturday.
