Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Great Start for Lechner Racing in First Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 Free Practice

The first free practice of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2019 at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona turned out to be a quite promising start for the three Lechner Racing teams, with a Top Three sweep and five drivers finally ending up in the Top 8.

Most of the top drivers including all the Lechner guys waited for quite a bit before really joining the 45-minute session. When things heated up, BWT Lechner Racing driver Michael Ammermüller, the 33-year-old Porsche Supercup Champion 2017 and 2018, was soon to set the best time with 1:49,180, only to be passed seconds later  by his teammate  Julien Andlauer, the French Porsche Junior, with a 1:48,883 – a time never to be beaten again in the following 25 minutes until the  chequered flag. “Of course it´s great to start the season on top”, Andlauer was happy with the result. “I have to thank the team for having been received their so  well. I already feel quite settled in and am looking forward to learn and improve even more with the help of Walter and his great squad.”

For  Ammermüller, winner here in Barcelona last year, it was quite a good start into the new season as well: “It´s important to find out where you are with your car at the very beginning – and I think it does not look too bad for either qualifying and the race. I know that it will be a very difficult task to defend my title again – but I will put all my experience at work to fight for it again.”

Tio Ellinas from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing made it to P3, the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain rather content with his debut in the Supercup. His teammate, 21-year-old Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg, last year´s Rookie Champion in the German Porsche Carrera Cup ended up in P7, just ahead of Team Lechner Racing Middle East´s Al Faisal Al Zubair from Oman in P8. Saul Hack, the current Porsche BWT GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East Silver champion, new to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, finished in P18. The 27-year old South African knows that his main goal this year is learning: “I still have to adapt to this highly professional series, so I have to take things step by step.”

“We are not at all getting carried away by today´s good result”, team principal Walter Lechner was adamant. “We know that we have a very tough season ahead of us, even as we are quite well prepared. But we do not underestimate our competitors at all, we know that they are getting stronger and stronger every year.”

Qualifying for the first race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 at the Circuit de Catalunya will start at 1.25 pm on Saturday.
