Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Front Row Start for BWT Lechner Driver Jaxon Evans at Barcelona

Jaxon Evans from Team BWT Lechner Racing claimed P2 on the grid for the sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 at the Circuit de Catalunya. Finishing second in qualifying behind Dutchman Larry Ten Voorde, the Porsche junior was quite happy with his achievement: “I sat down last night with my engineer Franzi Maier, to find out where I was losing time – we discovered that I was wanting to go the wrong way with the setup during free practice. We went back to what we knew was going to work, so big thanks to him for steering me in the right direction and a happy 66th birthday! It was a good lap, not perfect, but I think it’s really difficult to do a perfect lap in the hot conditions. It´s a good position to be able to fight for victory in the race tomorrow.”

His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Dylan Pereira, who had set fastest time in free practice on Friday and also in the first outing of qualifying on the first set of new tyres, was rather disappointed, only finishing on P5 in the end, after a bad middle sector on his fastest lap cost him a better time. “Of course I am not happy, I really expected more”, said the 23-year old from Luxembourg. “Now I have to see what I still can do in the race, not to lose too many points in the fight for the championship.”

Leon Köhler in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East one more time was very unlucky: Having set the second fastest time on the first set of tyres, he was not able to go out again due to a punctured radiator: “There were stones flying, as somebody ahead of me was slightly in the gravel – and they hit my car head on.” So he had to watch helplessly while other drivers improved on the second set of tyres, falling back to P7, “which is still not too bad under the circumstances.” His teammate JB Simmenauer ended up in P8. “I was following Jaxon on my fastest lap, it looked really great for some time, but then I made a few mistakes which cost me quite a lot of time, so I can’t be completely happy.”

French driver Nicolas Misslin, a guest driver for the team this weekend, was rather content with P21, having finished only two tenth of a second behind Pro-Am class leader Roar Lindland: “That´s not too bad,  it looks quite good for the race and I am really looking forward to it.”

Team principal Walter Lechner was happy about Jaxon Evans performance: “It´s great that he made it to the front row. Maybe he can really attack Ten Voorde – if he could beat him, it would be a nice help for Dylan in terms of the championship. As far as Leon is concerned, he really had his share of bad luck during the last races, but being still seventh after not being able to go out again with new tyres on a track where he had never been before is quite a performance.”
