Front Row Lockout for BWT Lechner Racing at Monza
BWT Lechner Racing scored a great result in qualifying for the eighth race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 at Monza: In the fastest qualifying session this year so far, Michael Ammermüller secured his second pole position of the season after Barcelona, just ahead of his teammate Thomas Preining – while it took more than three hours for the final classification to be released due to ongoing discussions about track limits.
“Of course it is great to start from pole again”, the Bavarian was ever so happy. “I felt very comfortable in the car here from the beginning, yesterday in the wet as well as today in the dry. And I got a very good lap in when it really counted. Now I hope I can make use of this great chance tomorrow in the race and extend my championship lead, especially as my main rival Nick Yelloly will only start from P5.” Preining, who had claimed pole last week at Spa, was also content: “Today, Michael was just a little bit faster but it is great to have a front row lockout for BWT Lechner Racing. “
MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing drivers Josh Webster and Dylan Pereira ended up in P11 and P12, with the Brit being a bit disappointed of not being able to repeat his Friday performance, where he had finished in P3.
Al Faisal Al Zubair of Team Lechner Racing Middle East ended up in a respectable 10th position, Igor Walilko, who had taken over car number 29 from youngster Khalid Al Wahaibi was 19th. Roar Lindland from Norway was again fastest in the ProAm category by about four tenth of a second, finishing in P21 in the general classification.
“Of course this qualifying result puts us in a perfect position for tomorrow´s race (12.05 pm, Eurosport2)”,team principal Walter Lechner stated. “If we can repeat this performance tomorrow, it would also be an important step regarding both championships.”
