“French Connection” for Walter Lechner ́s Teams in German Porsche Carrera Cup
A German all-time-great together with two French and one other at least French speaking driver - the two Lechner Racing teams in the German Porsche Carrera Cup 2019 are a great example for an “Austrian-German-French Connection”.
At the BWT Lechner Racing Team Michael Ammermüller, the ever so experienced Porsche Supercup Champion 2017 and 2018, will again be a very important factor for trying to defend the team title won by the Austrian Squad last year. Nevertheless being very busy professionally in his family company beside his rather wide racing commitments, the 33-year-old Bavarian has still to sort out some details about his schedule before being able to confirm his participation in all the eight championship weekends.
He will be joined by Julien Andlauer, the French Porsche Junior who already gained a lot of experience in the different Porsche Cup series. Champion of the French Porsche Carrera Cup in 2017, the 19-year-old took part in the 2018 Porsche Supercup, finishing the season in P4. Now he is looking forward to his first year with Walter Lechner and his team: “As I will do the German Porsche Carrera Cup and the Porsche Supercup for Walter, it will be quite a busy year together with my WEC commitments. Of course I hope I can be a title contender, but I know for sure there will bea lot of competition as the German Carrera Cup is a very strong series.
”The second team, simply called Lechner Racing, will continue with it ́s 2018 line-up of Dylan Pereira and Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer. 21-year-old Pereira from Luxembourg, last year ́s Rookie Champion and fourth overall, is aiming for even better results this year: “I have a bit more experience by now and I hope I will be able to turn this into more podiums and maybe even victories.” 18-year-old Jean-Baptiste, called “JB” Simmenauer from France, also already proved his talent in the 2018 season, but knows that there is still room for improvement for him this year, “especially in terms of consistency and avoiding mistakes. I hope that with the help of Walter and his whole team I will be able to raise my game again”, says Simmenauer, who will compete in BWT colours in this series this year.
Team principal Walter Lechner is expecting a very tough season: “Especially as we have three titles to defend, the challenge for us will be huge, with the competition getting stronger and stronger every year. What I already know is that 2019 will be a good season for my personal language skills: With two French drivers, I will be able to seriously practice my French again, which I learned in thehotel business in Paris many, many years ago.”
