Four Lechner Cars in the Top Ten at Free Practice at Silverstone
In the free practice of the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 at Silverstone, four Lechner cars made it into the Top Ten. BWT Lechner Racing driver Dylan Pereira, the current championship leader, was the fastest of them in P4: “This track is rather challenging, very fast and with quite a few corners that demand a bit of courage”, said the 23-year old from Luxembourg. “I am not unhappy with my performance, but I think there still will be more to come for the rest of the weekend.
His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Jaxon Evans finished the session in fifth place: “I had a really bad weekend in Hungary two weeks ago, so it´s important to get back on track here”, the New Zealander was adamant. “It was not a bad start, but there is still room for improvement until qualifying tomorrow, especially as I made a few mistakes in my last laps. If everything works well, I still believe I can attack the front row.”
Leon Köhler in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East was quite content with his performance after finishing in P7: “I am driving here for the first time, so I had to get familiar with the track first. Also I did not get my best sectors together in one lap today. If I can do this tomorrow, I think I can reach the Top 5 again.” His teammate JB Simmenauer had a little off into the gravel, but still managed to claim P9, staying at least within the Top 10.
Guest starters Julian Hanses and Berkay Besler ended up in P12 and P16. “I never drove here before, only knew the track from the simulator, and I have to say it is still something completely different in reality”, Hanses was a bit surprised. “I am still lacking a bit of commitment in the fast corners.” Besler, for the first time back into a racing Porsche after 230 days, had his fastest lap deleted in the end due to track limits.
Team principal Walter Lechner admitted “that the distance to the top times is a bit too big for my liking, but I also have to recognize that Larry Ten Voorde showed a real strong performance today. He is for sure a very competitive rival for us in this season. We still have some work to do overnight to see where we can improve. What I would like to mention is the strong performance of Leon Köhler. He is the only one of our four regular drivers who has never been here before and he proved that he is able to learn a track very quickly, which is always a sign of real talent.”
