First Win of the Season for Michael Ammermüller and BWT Lechner Racing at Race 2 at Most
Michael Ammermüller secured the first win of the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for BWT Lechner Racing at the second race of the weekend at Most/CZ. Behind Larry ten Voorde, Dylan Pereira from the Lechner Racing Team claimed his first podium finish of the year, just ahead of second BWT Lechner Racing driver Julien Andlauer in P4.
Ammermüller won the start from pole position, but the race had to be immediately red-flagged after a big crash of four cars at the back of the field. After about 15 minutes, the race was resumed behind the safety car, but due to the tight timetable at Most, it had to be shortened to a 13 minutes sprint event, so in the end only 9 instead of the planned 17 laps were driven and only half points awarded. Ammermüller defended his lead until the end, the reigning Porsche Supercup Champion securing his first win of the season: “After the little mistake I made yesterday, today everything went well from my side. Of course I am happy to have made it to the top of the podium for the first time this year, even if it is a pity that the race had to be so short that everybody only gets half points.” His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Julien Andlauer also suffered a bit from the circumstances. “If you start from P5, then have a safety car start and such a short race distance there is not too much you can do. But the good thing is that I was really quick today, so that´s a positive sign for the future”, the French Porsche Junior was adamant after finishing in P4.
Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg, who also set fastest lap of the race, was also happy about his first podium finish of the year: “The red flag of course did not help me at all – I had a very good start and was already in P2 and I am sure I was fast enough today to keep it. So with the new start behind the safety car, I lost this advantage. But generally I am glad with the result – especially after the really difficult first weekend at Hockenheim.” His Lechner Racing teammate JB Simmenauer seemed to be able to gain some places from P18 on the grid, but then he got pushed into a spin, losing all the already made up ground again and finally finished in P20.
Team principal Walter Lechner was happy about the result: “Our first win of the season in the German Porsche Carrera Cup, another podium finish and three cars in the Top Four, I think that´s something we can be really proud of. Especially after our difficult start two weeks ago at Hockenheim. Now we are already looking forward to our season highlight in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Monaco next weekend.”
