Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Fastest Time for BWT Lechner Racing and Dylan Pereira in Free Practice at Spielberg
He did it for a second time in a row: As one week ago, Dylan Pereira from BWT Lechner Racing set the fastest time of the session in the free practice of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring, ahead of Marvin Klein. Just three thousands of a second behind the Frenchman, Leon Köhler in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East ended up in P3, confirming his strong performance of his first Supercup weekend. “Again, he stayed ahead of the top favourites Larry Ten Voorde and Ayhancan Güven. That´s really an achievement for a rookie”, Austrian team principal Walter Lechner was impressed. “He and of course Dylan did a great job today.”
Pereira was rather happy about his start into the weekend: “Especially as the weather forecast for tomorrow is rather bad and it might be possible that qualifying has to be cancelled due to too much rain, this could be very important. Because then today´s result would be taken for the starting grid – so I would be on pole position!”, said the 23-year old from Luxembourg, runner-up of the race last Sunday.
His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Jaxon Evans, first winner of the season, was not very happy: “Somehow I had a handling problem from the very beginning of the session, I just did not feel too comfortable in the car. I had hoped it would improve with the second set of tyres, but it actually did not. So now we have quite a bit of work to do, go through all the data very carefully, to find out what was going on”, said the New Zealander, who only finished in P9.
The youngsters of Lechner Racing Middle East in their MSG Porsches also encountered slightly different fates: While 20-year-old German Leon Köhler could not complain at all about P3 and another strong performance, “where I managed to improve my lap-times consistently”, his teammate JB Simmenauer had to put up with P8: “I missed out a bit on my second set of tyres”, said the Frenchmen. Julian Hanses, driving the third Lechner Racing Middle East car at Red Bull Ring, had to be content with P12, but was nevertheless not too unhappy: “A few things did not come together during the end of the session. I chose a more aggressive approach this time, went closer to the limit of the car. Which is generally the right way, but it also caused me to make a few more mistakes. Also I hit traffic on one of my fast laps. I think, something like P7 would have been possible.”
Team principal Walter Lechner stated: “Of course I was glad last weekend that we had such a strong start into the season with our triple sweep. But that does not mean that we will take anything for granted now. This weekend means we start from zero again. The points we have already scored are a nice bonus, but nothing more. Now we have to find out what´s the problem with Jaxon´s car and we also have to wait and see what the weather will be doing, of we can have a qualifying or not tomorrow.”
