Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Fastest but not Fastest in the End – Dylan Pereira in Free Practice at Barcelona
Dylan Pereira from Team BWT Lechner Racing set the fastest time of the free practice for the sixth the round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, but had the lap deleted later on due to a track limit infringement. Nevertheless, the current championship leader, who therefore dropped down to fifth in the official result, was not too unhappy: “The car felt good, I was up to speed from the very beginning and I am confident that I will be able to fight for pole position tomorrow.” The successful season of the 23-year old from Luxembourg has risen the interest in the Supercup in his home country quite a bit: RTL Luxembourg will broadcast the last three races of the season live on TV.
Pereira´s teammate Jaxon Evans even finished the session officially in P2 due to the race control decision, but “the time gap to Dylan is quite big, so I have to compare our data to make up some ground. I think I went a little bit in the wrong direction with the set-up, so we probably have to chose another way for tomorrow to be able to aim for a front row grid position”, said the Porsche Junior from New Zealand.
Leon Köhler in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East finished in P9, but was rather content with his performance. “I have never driven here before, so for the first time on a new track it´s not too bad. Especially if I look at the sector times. I just have to put them together in one lap, then it should be possible to get into the Top Five.” His teammate JB Simmenauer ended up in P10, after hitting traffic on his fastest lap. “Somehow it was not easy today to find the right gap on track. Generally it´s not yet the result I wanted, but we tried a lot of different things and I know where I can improve.”
French driver Nicolas Misslin is a guest driver for the team this weekend. Not having sat in a racing car since the end of the French Porsche Carrera Cup season 2019 last October, he was quite happy to finish just behind Pro-Am class leader Roar Lindland in P20 : “I am actually a Pro-Am driver, so this is my benchmark, even as a guest starter you are not eligible for this category. I am really content with my first outing after such a long time, thanks to Walter and the team for giving me this chance and providing me with such a good car. The set-up is fantastic and gave me confidence immediately. It´s a pity there was a long red flag, about 10 minutes, as I could use every lap to improve, but I hope there is still quite a bit to come. It´s only the beginning of the weekend...”
Team principal Walter Lechner was rather content, “as it is a good sign that both Dylan and Jaxon seem to be quite comfortable and content in the car here. For his first time in Barcelona, Leon also did a good job and proved again that he is able to learn new circuits quickly. Now we have to see what we can do in qualifying, but I am not too pessimistic.”
