Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Emotional Home Victory for Dylan Pereira at Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Spa
Dylan Pereira from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing scored victory at the seventh race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Spa-Francorchamps/Belgium. With his teammate Tio Ellinas in P6 and the two BWT Lechner Racing drivers Michael Ammermüller and Julien Andlauer in P8 and P9, three more Lechner Racing cars finished in the Top Ten.
Pereira had led from pole position for the whole race, but on the last laps it got very dramatic, as Ayhancan Güven had close in and tried some attacks, including once touching the 21-year-old from Luxembourg from behind. But Pereira managed to secure his cars and still control the situation, crossing the finish line with an advantage of two tenth of a second, winning his second race of the season after Hockenheim, where he had not scored any points due to the shortened race distance.
It was a very emotional victory for the MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing driver: “Of course it his fantastic to win here, Spa is my home race, I have a lot of friends and family here. But it was not so easy to race today after the tragic accident that happened yesterday in F2. I knew Anthoine Hubert quite well from our common time in karting and in Formula Renault. I really wanted to win this race for him and I did. So, Anthoine, this one is for you!” Pereira, like the French Lechner drivers Andlauer and Simmenauer wore a black stripe over the national flags on their cars as a sign of mourning and respect.
It was not such a great weekend for the BWT Lechner Racing Team. Michael Ammermüller, having started from P5 after having his fastest lap in qualifying deleted due to track limits, lost a few positions as it got ever so close between four or five cars on the first lap: “It´s always a question of how much risk you are willing to take in these kind of situations.” Having dropped back to P8, just ahead of his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Julien Andlauer, he closed up to the group in front of him, but never found a way to get by, while Andlauer had to defend himself against Mikkel Pedersen to keep P9. “The whole weekend for me was bad”, said the French Porsche Junior, who in the championship now shares the lead with Ammermüller with 92 points each. “But on the other hand, if you see what can happen in racing like yesterday, what is the meaning of just a result...”
Al Faisal Al Zubair from Team Lechner Racing Middle East made it up to P13 from P17 on the grid with some nice overtaking, his South African teammate Saul Hack was classified 25th in the end. JB Simmenauer, taking part in the Supercup as a guest starter for the third time after Austria and Hungary, like Ammermüller lost a few places in the first round mess, but managed to get back to P14 at least.
“Dylan did a great job today, he did not make any mistake under extreme pressure and brought the win home on a day that was not too easy for anybody due to the circumstances”, team principal Walter Lechner stated. “Michael and Julien lost a few points in comparison to our closest followers in the championship, but you sometimes just have to deal with a weekend where things don´t go according to plan. We will do everything to turn things around a bit in one week´s time in Monza.”
