Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
Complete Front Row for BWT Lechner Racing at Hungaroring
After the rain on Friday, qualifying for the sixth race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2019 at the Hungaroring took place in the dry, but as in the wet, the Lechner Teams put in an impressive performance. Tio Ellinas from Team Momo Megatron Lechner Racing set the fastest time of the session, followed closely by BWT Lechner Racing drivers Julien Andlauer and Michael Ammermüller in P2 and P3. But the the 26-year old from Cyprus like some other drivers later had his lap deleted for not respecting yellow flags and dropped back to P4: “Of course I am disappointed, it was really a tight decision. But nobody can take away from me my performance, the great lap I did.” So in the end the BWT duo claimed the front row of the grid with the French Porsche Junior on pole.
Reigning Supercup champion Michael Ammermüller had set the pace with the first set of tyres, three tenth ahead of his closest competitor, before being overtaken by Ellinas and his teammate Andlauer in the second outing. “And just when I was on a very fast lap which for sure would have been pole, the red flag came out.”
Hockenheim winner Dylan Pereira Motorsport finished in P5, also hampered by the red flag on his way further up: “I was on a lap that was seven tenth faster so far...” Team Lechner Racing Middle East´s Al Faisal Al Zubair was smiling about his best ever qualifying result in the Supercup so far with P6: “The last two races it was P7, so now to improve again is a good feeling. I think I am really getting more and more competitive.” His South African teammate Saul Hack was also quite happy about P17 and “a weekend without troubles and mistakes so far...” Guest starter Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer had his fastest lap deleted due to track limits in his first outing, “then with the second set of tyres on the first lap I mad a slight mistake and when I was sure I could improve on the last one I was stopped by the red flag. Of course P20 is not what I had hoped for.”
“Claiming the front row and bringing five cars into the Top Six even of course is a great achievement again”, team principal Walter Lechner was proud of the job done by his squad. “We can see that Team Momo Megatron Lechner Racing getting stronger and stronger, really catching up with BWT Lechner Racing, the two giving each other a hard fight. The yellow flag affair was some bad luck, but Tio confirmed his great form he already showed at Hockenheim, performing on about the same level as Julien and Michael. You can never know what will happen in the race, but so far the basis looks very promising.”
The race at the Hungaroring will start on Sunday at 12.40PM, live at Eurosport and Sky Sports F1.
