BWT Lechner Racing Joining Porsche Carrera Cup France
For the first time in the history of the team, BWT Lechner Racing will take part in the Porsche Carrera Cup France. The four-car-entry will be lead by Jaxon Evans and JB Simmenauer, two Lechner drivers who already did the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season for Lechner Racing. They will be joined by German newcomer Richard Wagner and Frenchman Nicolas Misslin, who got to know Lechner Racing as a guest starter in the Supercup season 2020.
The first of five weekends with two races each is taking place this weekend at Magny Cours, preparing teams and drivers for the highlight of the season next week, when the series will be part of the support program for the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
While Evans and Simmenauer hope to be able to join the fight for the title against the likes of reigning champion Ayhancan Güven and experienced Supercup driver Florian Latorre, Misslin is looking forward to competing in the Pro-Am category with good chances for the championship: “It was great for me to get the two guest starts in the Supercup, as I hadn´t race since last year in October before. I also got to know the team very well, Walter and his people have been very, very helpful and I really hope to able to fight for the title.”
German Richard Wagner, who so far mainly competed in the German Porsche Carrera Cup, wants to extend his international experience this year, “and also joining BWT Lechner Racing for me is a dream come true. Walter and his teams are very well known for being able to help young drivers to get the best out of themselves”, the 20-year-old is adamant. “So I will try to learn as much as possible with them.”
Team principal Walter Lechner is looking forward to the new addition of the team´s portfolio of championships: “With the Supercup having ended rather early this year, the French Porsche Carrera Cup as a very competitive championship is an ideal playing field for us for the rest of the European racing season. So everybody can stay in the flow while getting to know a new surrounding and new competitors, before we have to focus again on our winter activities in the Middle East.”
