BWT Lechner Racing and Ammermüller lead Free Practice at Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Final
It was a good start into the weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup final at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico-City for BWT Lechner Racing: Championship leader Michael Ammermüller set the fastest time towards the very end of the free practice session with a 1:43.648, with his teammate Thomas Preining following about one tenth behind. “I have raced here last year already, that helps a little bit of course. I hope I can continue like this over the rest of the weekend”, said Ammermüller, the defending champion, who carries an advantage of five points over his main rival Nick Yelloly, the Brit ending up in P6 in the free practice.
Three further Lechner drivers made it into the Top Ten in the end: Josh Webster from Team MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing ended up in P4, his teammate Dylan Pereira in P9 and Philip Hamprecht, racing here for Lechner Racing Middle East in P10 – the last two both Mexico newcomers. Regular Lechner Racing Middle East driver Al Faisal Al Zubair has to miss out this weekend due to important school commitments. Roar Lindland, competing for the ProAm-Title, put in a strong performance with P15 in the overall classification, just 1.2 seconds behind Ammermüller and clearly ahead of his main rival Nicolas Misslin: “Of course it is at least not a disadvantage that I was already here last year while Nicolas was not”, the Norwegian.
Team principal Walter Lechner was still very careful: “So far, so good – but don´t let us get carried away. We only put in our best times at the very end, the opposition is very strong and you never know what is going to happen especially in qualifying, when you have to be at the right place at the right time. For sure the two races (Saturday, 9.45pm, and Sunday, 5pm, live on Eurosport 1) will be a great challenge and rather nerve wrecking for us, as three titles are at stake.”
