Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
BWT Lechner Driver Dylan Pereira in Third Place at Silverstone
Another podium finish for BWT Lechner Racing: Dylan Pereira came home third behind Ayhancan Güven and Larry Ten Voorde in the fifth race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 at Silverstone. With this result, he also kept his lead in the championship, four points ahead of the Dutchman. It was again a great result for the Lechner Teams with all six cars finishing within the Top 11.
Starting from P4, Pereira kept his position after the start, but had to wait with further attacks as the safety-car had to come out soon for three laps due to a collision at the back of the field between Philip Sager and John Love. Nevertheless, soon after the re-start he was able to make a successful move against van Splunteren: “It was very important to get by immediately, then I was able to close in on the two guys in front of me. I was hoping they might make a mistake, but they didn´t, so I had to settle in on P3”, said the 23-year-old from Luxembourg. “But it is nice to be back on the podium again and also keeping my championship lead.”
His BWT Lechner Racing teammate Jaxon Evans was rather disappointed with P8: “I already destroyed my weekend yesterday in qualifying with my mistake in the last sector, which cost me a much better grid position, probably even pole.” But the Porsche Junior from New Zealand admitted he also did not have the best of all races: “I had already gained one or two positions, but then I lost them again as I made a few little mistakes, getting off track once for example...”
For JB Simmenauer in the MSG-Porsche of Team Lechner Racing Middle East, P5 was “a pretty good result. After the safety-car I struggled a little bit with the car, but then in the last five laps it was really mega. Van Splunteren ahead of me defended very well, but I think I also made a few little mistakes while attacking him, otherwise I might have been able to overtake.”
His teammate Leon Köhler, who had started the weekend so well on Friday with setting the fastest time in free practice, originally finished in P9, the same position he had started from. He had already gained two positions, but then lost some ground after touching with Marius Nakken: “I am not sure if my car got damaged in the incident, at least from then on I had a few problems with the front axle, we have to check this now.” A 5-second-penalty for the mishap even dropped him back to P10 later on.
Guest starters Julian Hanses and Berkay Besler and Julian Hanses finished in P10 and 11 on track, the German later being moved up to P9 due to the Köhler penalty. He was glad about the result and had really enjoyed his race: “This time I got the start quite right, that makes things already a bit easier in the first laps when you are not under so much pressure to make up lost ground. There was some real hard fighting going on in the midfield, but I really enjoyed it, it was great fun to race against the guys side by side. Now I hope I can get another guest start in Monza with Walter and his team.”
Team principal Walter Lechner first wanted to congratulate winner Ayhancan Güven, “who is already the fourth winner in five races so far this season, which shows how highly competitive the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 is. I am glad that Dylan made it to the podium again, this means we have been on the podium in every race this year so far. JB Simmenauer had his best weekend by far this year, he drove a very clever race, had the speed of the top guys and showed what he can do of he qualifies further up. I am sure Jaxon Evans and Leon Köhler, who did not have their greatest weekends here, will recover soon and be back on top next week in Barcelona. Speaking of Barcelona, a big thanks to all our drivers for keeping the cars in one piece here. With the tight schedule and the long travel time to Spain, this is really important.”
