Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup

Ammermüller fastest, six Lechner cars within Top Twelve

Championship leader Michael Ammermüller set fastest time during the free practice of the Porsche Supercup at the Hungaroring with 1:48,051, leading another impressive performance of the Lechner Racing team with six cars within the Top Twelve. The Bavarian finished the session with an advantage of eight hundredth of a second ahead of Italian Mattia Drudi, followed by two other Lechner drivers, Dennis Olsen and Dan Cammish in P3 and P4.

But the big surprise of the day was created by Al Faisal Al Zubair. The youngster from Oman, who scored his first points in Silverstone two weeks ago, proved his constantly rising learning curve by establishing himself within the Top Ten already at the very beginning of the session and then finally ending up in P6 with another great lap on his second attempt. "I am really happy with this result, now I just hope I can confirm it in qualifying and in the race", said Al Zubair, who got also a lot of praise from team principal Walter Lechner: "He was only four tenth behind a very experienced driver like Cammish and left people like Ryan Cullen and Dylan Pereira in P11 and P12 behind him. I am really impressed by the progress he is making, how he uses every chance to improve and is able to put everything he is learning immediately into effect."

Contrary to Silverstone, where Lechner Racing was running no less than nine cars, here it´s only seven, including guest starter Sean Hudspeth. Or, let´s say, seven and a half - due to a rather unusual story in the usually very competitive racing environment: Lechner Racing and Konrad Motorsport renewed their old friendship and joined forces to enable the Supercup debut of Austrian Porsche junior Thomas Preining, who finished his first practice session in P13. The young guy from Linz, who is normally racing in the German Porsche Carrera Cup and just recently took his first victory there at Nürburgring, takes part at the Hungaroring in a Konrad car, but using a Lechner entry slot for his guest start, as Konrad could not be granted one. By the way – if anybody should be looking for Preining´s car in the Porsche paddock: It can be found in the Lechner tent...
