Lechner Racing Porsche Supercup
A great combination: Al Faisal Al Zubair and Lechner Racing Middle East
Motor racing in the Middle East is growing – if any proof for this was still needed, it was given at the recent press conference of Al Faisal al Zubair at Lebanon. The Omani top driver of Lechner Racing Middle East, who will represent the team for the second year in a row at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which 2018 season will start this weekend at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, attracted a lot of media attention, talking about his aims for this year.
"I had a great preparation over the winter, racing the whole Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East", the 20-year-old said. With four wins, three second and three third places, Al Zubair finally claimed the title at the last race weekend at Bahrain, and is now looking forward to the Supercup season: "For sure it will help me a lot that this year I already know all the tracks and I am much more accustomed to the strong competition in this highly competitive series. Last year, I finished in P14 with 29 points, so I hope this year I can make it into the Top Ten regularly in the races and in the final classification as well."
The second driver for Lechner Racing Middle East will be Roar Lindland from Norway. The 40-year-old Scandinavian is a very experienced Porsche Cup driver, having started his racing career in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia in 2010. In 2013, he turned up in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the first time, and after three seasons in the Porsche Carrera Cup France, he returned to the Supercup in 2017. "Already last year I had quite a good chance to win the Gentleman class until late in the season", says Lindlar. "Now having joined Walter Lechner and his ever so successful and experienced squad, I really hope to improve my racing skills and my results even more."
Austrian team principal Walter Lechner, one of the great promoters of motorsports in the Middle East, states: "I am really happy that with Al Faisal we have such a great representative of this region in our team and I am convinced he has all the abilities to make his way into the top league of international motor racing. We as a team for sure will provide him with all the help and support we can give to a young, promising driver. With Roar, this year we have somebody in our line-up with whom we can aim for the title in the Gentleman category, which is a nice addition to our known challenges."
