Solid Start for Lechner Racing at First Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Practice 2018
It was a promising start for Lechner Racing at the first practice of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2018 at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona: Reigning champion Michael Ammermüller of BWT Lechner Racing finished in third place. With this, he was the leading of four Lechner cars making it into the Top Ten, with MOMO Megatron Lechner drivers Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg in P6 and Josh Webster in P9. Philip Hamprecht, the 20-year old German, who raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in 2017, and is a guest starter with Lechner Racing Middle East here at Barcelona finished tenth and was able to show his talent immediately.
Ammermüller, who was clearly voted title favourite of the year by all his competitors in an internal poll, was not unhappy with the result: “Our aim today was mainly to find a good balance for the car and get adapted again to the new tarmac, which now, with different rubber on it, again behaves a bit different from testing.” Considering the voting of the other drivers in his favour, he explains: “Well, I won the championship last year, so it´s rather obvious that I am seen as the favourite this year as well. But for sure it will not be easy at all. Already during the tests it showed that a lot of other teams and drivers improved quite a lot and so there will be fierce competition.”
While Austrian Thomas Preining, who had been fastest during testing, did not get a proper qualy simulation lap ended up in P13, Norwegian Roar Lindland was fastest in the Gentlemen category, in P17 in total just one place ahead in of Al Faisal Al Zubair. Austrian team principal Walter Lechner was rather content with the performance of his squad: “We knew it would be very close this year and it already showed today. But in general I think we are in rather good shape and I hope we can prove this in Qualifying tomorrow as well as in the race on Sunday.”
