Second Row Grid Position for Lechner Racing at Spielberg Home Race
Lechner Racing had to put up with a second row grid position in qualifying for their Austrian home race of the Porsche Supercup at the Red Bull Ring/Spielberg, as Michael Ammermüller got caught out by a bit of bad luck towards the end of the session: In his way to clearly improving his lap time again and even looking set to be able to attack the pole position if Australian Matt Campbell, the Bavarian was slightly hampered by traffic and so had to settle in third place: "Now I need a good start tomorrow", said Ammermüller, who so far won all the three Supercup races in 2017, "but the most important thing is that for sure I will do everything to defend my Championship lead."
Second best of the huge Lechner squad in a very tight qualifying was Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg in P5, who confirmed his rising form after already having lead the time sheet in free practice yesterday for the first time in his Supercup career. Dan Cammish in P8 and Dennis Olsen in P9 secured the two other Top Ten positions for the team. Team principal Walter Lechner stated that "maybe today we were not always the luckiest guys as far as traffic and other little issues were concerned. But I am convinced we will still be able to fight for a podium finish in the race, and let´s see: May be even the top step will still be in reach. So stay tuned in tomorrow at 11.30 a.m, when the race action will start for us!"
Al Faisal Al Zubair did a very good job to reach 15th position as a complete rookie to the not easy to drive Red Bull Ring, while guest starter Sean Hudspeth from Singapore, who is driving in a seventh Lechner car her in Austria, caused a short Red Flag period with an off into the gravel bed at turn 9, but still qualified in P20 just behind Ryan Cullen, even after not being able to rejoin the track in the final minutes of the session.
