Pole Position for Dennis Olsen at Spa – five Lechner cars in the Top Ten
Dennis Olsen hit back in qualifiying for the two races of the Porsche Supercup 2017 at Spa-Francorchamps after losing a lot of time in free practice yesterday due to a fuel system sensor problem, which was completely solved by Lechner Racing over night. The Norwegian scored pole position for both races with a best time of 2:23,857,starting ahead of Italian Mattia Drudi and his Lechner teammate Michael Ammermüller in race one. Dan Cammish and Dylan Pereira in P7 and P8 and guest starter Henric Skoog in P10 completed another great team result for the Austrian squad. Team principal Walter Lechner was very happy, "especially that we managed to sort out Dennis´ car after the troubles yesterday. Starting from P1 and P3 is a great achievement again and gives us every chance to further extend our Championship lead."
After some rain during the night, the session started on a still slightly damp track, but with the racing line already dry, so slick tyres where the right call from the beginning. With two races on the program this weekend, qualifying had double importance, the fastest lap of each driver counting for grid number one for the Saturday evening race and the second-fastest one for the grid for the Sunday race.
Most of the Lechner drivers like many others waited quite some time to join track action for the track drying out completely. Ammermüller, who currently leads the Championship 14 points ahead of Olsen, even stayed in the pits until the last 11 minutes before launching his attack, but kept his nerves even when time got a bit tight in the end. "Of course I would have liked to be on pole here at one of my favourite tracks, but P3 is still not too bad – let´s see what I can do on the races then."
Race 1 will go ahead already tonight at 18.35 p.m., with race 2 scheduled for 11.25 am on Sunday, where Olsen will also start from pole ahead of guest starter Nick Yelloly, with Ammermüller, Pereira and Skoog in P3 to P5.
