Pole Position for Ammermüller – Top Three all Lechner Cars
Michael Ammermüller secured his second pole position of the season in the qualifying for the Porsche Supercup at Hungaroring, leading a sweep of Lechner Racing with Dan Cammish and Dennis Olsen in P2 and P3. After Cammish having lead for more than 20 minutes of the session, Championship leader Ammermüller finally beat the Brit by nearly twi tenth of a second with a time of 1:46,926, the only driver to break the 1:47 -threshold. "Of course its great to be on pole here again after Monaco", said the Bavarian, who is also quite confident for the race: "Already yesterday in free practice I realised that we have a really consistent car here, soi that looks promising."
Young Austrian Thomas Preining made good use of the joined effort of Lechner Racing and Konrad Motorsport to get him on the grid for his first Porsche Supercup race ever. Even being a complete newcomer to Hungaroring, the Porsche junior, who normally races in the German Porsche Carrera Cup, managed to qualify in P7, ahead of regular Lechner drivers Dylan Pereira in P9 and Al Faisal al Zubair, the youngster from Oman nevertheless securing his best Supercup qualifying result ever in P12. "Hats off to all the guys who really did a great job again," said team principal Walter Lechner, "of course it would be great to see an all-Lechner podium again tomorrow, but we also should be careful and never underestimate the opposition."
Race six of the season will be under way at the Hungaroring at 11.30 am on Sunday and is going become literally a very hot event: Track temperatures already today reached 55 degrees – and temperatures are expected to rise even higher for tomorrow...
