Michael Ammermüller leads Free Practice at Porsche Supercup Final
It was very close already in the free practice of the Porsche Supercup final at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico-City, but Championship leader Michael Ammermüller set the fastest time in his very last lap with a 1:44.809. The Bavarian left Matt Campbell and Mattia Drudi as well as his Championship rival Dennis Olsen behind - but the first four cars are only separated by 0,270 seconds. "It will be a very close fight from the first to the last minute of the two races here", said Ammermüller, who currently is three points ahead of his Norwegian rival, "but of course it is always nice to start the weekend on the right foot."
Team principal Walter Lechner hopes for a clean and successful end of the season: "It was a great year for us so far and I really hope it will end the same way. Our drivers are free to race each other – the only thing I asked them for is to do it in a fair way."
The session had to be red flagged after 13 minutes, after Julien Andlauer, the reigning champion of the French Porsche Cup spun and stopped in the middle of the track, with Dennis Olsen nearly getting caught out in the incident as well, but no real damage was done.
Two further Lechner drivers made it into the Top Ten in the end: Dan Cammish, still looking to grab third place in the Championship from Campbell, ended up in P6, Austrian Thomas Preining, replacing Dylan Pereira for this final weekend of the season, who could not get off his military duties in Luxembourg, finished in P10.
