Double Pole Position for Thomas Preining at Hockenheim
BWT Lechner Racing driver Thomas Preining is close to securing the title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany 2018 already in the first race of the season´s final at Hockenheim: The 20-year old Austrian claimed pole position for Saturday´s and Sunday´s race again – poles number 10 and 11 for him in 14 races, demonstrating his dominance in this championship this year. On Sunday, it will be his teammate Michael Ammermüller to start from P2 just beside him, making it a pink BWT Lechner Racing front row lockout again.
With 1:40,781 and 1:40,893 minutes, Preining set the fastest and also the best of the second fastest times, the later one counting for today´s grid: “Of course this is a great position to be in”, he was happy after qualifying which had started with a slight delay due to two red flags in the ADAC GT Masters session before. “Now I hope to have a good start and win the title already today with another victory,” said the Porsche junior, who is currently leading Ammermüller, his only remaining championship rival, by 27 points.
Lechner Racing driver Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg will start from the front row besides Preining in race 1 on Saturday (4.15 pm, Sport1), which gives him a good chance to take back the lead in the rookie championship, as his main rival Igor Walilko will start rather behind: “It is my great aim to win this title this weekend, and I am really glad that for once I managed to have a really good qualifying again after the disappointment at Sachsenring two weeks ago”, Pereira stated. “P2 today and P3 tomorrow, that´s great. Finally I was able to show what I really can do.” His teammate Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer claimed grid positions 13 and 14 respectively, with guest starter Al Faisal Al Zubair in P16 and 17 close behind him.
Team principal Walter Lechner was happy with the result: “It´s great to have two pole positions and three cars within the Top 4 twice. It was a very good season so far for us and I hope we can finish it at a very high level this weekend!”
