Dan Cammish best of the Lechner drivers at Spa in fourth place
It was some kind of a typical Spa practice, which saw British driver Dan Cammish in fourth place as the best of the Lechner cars, while Robert Lukas from Poland set fastest time in 2:25,777: The free practice session of the sixth weekend of the Porsche Supercup 2017 started on a wet track, but with no water standing anymore and just some spry the drivers had to deal with – but conditions improved step by step, making it clear that there would be a lot of improvement during the 45 minutes.
Dennis Olsen had a little off just at the beginning and lost about 15 minutes, Michael Ammermüller was the first one to break the 2:40 barrier, but on a drying track laptimes quickly dropped sufficiently and already before halftime, the first cars changed to slicks. When Olsen joined the track again, he immediately took the lead for some moments, but then later had to stop on track with a technical problem, meaning that he got stuck in P12. Championship leader Michael Ammermüller, who calls Spa "one of my favourite tracks, it´s really a great challenge for every driver, finished in P9 just ahead of Dylan Pereira, but was not too worried: "Today´s session was a bit of a lottery, you had to get a clear lap in the last two or three minutes. Also it was not worth risking too much in the still tricky conditions. Our car is good and I am confident that in qualifying tomorrow we will be back to our usual top positions." Team principal Walter Lechner agrees: "I don´t think that this result is really representative due to the special conditions – let´s wait and see tomorrow."
Spa rookie Al Faisal al Zubair did a very good job finishing in P 14, just behind Ryan Cullen, aon this very difficult track, while guest driver Henric Skoog was ranked in P8 for some seconds when the chequered flag had dropped, only to see his time deleted due to track limits – as did many others during the session, with the Swede, who is supported by the Huber Team he races for in the German Porsche Carrera Cup, but uses the entry of Lechner Racing, dropping back to P16.
