6th Round Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – Silverstone (GBR): Shining double win for the Lechner Team

At the 6th round for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Silverstone, the two Lechner-Drivers René Rast and Norbert Siedler fetched a glorious double victory. In the “Home of British Motorracing”, the reigning Supercup-Champion secured his third win this season, while Norbert Siedler with a strong final spurt defeated the Englishman Sean Edwards and took second Rank. With seventh position, Michael Ammermüller proved the good overall performance of the Austrian Lechner Team, only amateur racer Andreas Mayerl had to settle with a retirement in the English Grand Prix.

“It’s already my third Supercup-Victory this season - the second one in a row – currently everything runs perfect for us”, shines René Rast after the race on the almost six kilometres long traditional race track in England. However, before the German could rejoice, he had to go through a hard piece of work. Started from the second spot in the starting grid, Rast took over the lead already on the first meters of the race, but than he had to show all his skills, to secure the race victory. “Before the race even started, I knew already that I would be a tough matter. Because unlike me, Sean (Edwards) as well as Norbert (Siedler) had a fresh set of tyres”, said the two-fold Supercup champion. “Unlike my opponents, I had to step on the brakes earlier, to step on the throttle later and to go a wider line. Because of that it’s a really valuable win”, commented the Lechner-Pilot, who was rewarded for his outstanding performance with the lead in the driver standings of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Nevertheless, the man of the race became Norbert Siedler, who with a gap on his team mate of only 0.415 seconds crossed the finish line on second position. “What a race”, said the Austrian, who started from fifth position, after the chequered flag. In the course of the 12 laps on the English high speed circuit, that was dry for the first time that weekend, the VELTINS-Lechner-Driver improved position by position and in the final stage of the race he closed the gap to the leading two. “In the last lap I put all eggs in one basket and made a move on Sean Edwards.” With a dream of a manoeuvre the 29-year-old managed to pass the Brit only meters before the finish line and took over second rank. “It’s a great result and another important 18 points for the title fight in the championship. Now we will lock forward and have another attack at the round on the Hockenheimring.”

The weekend in England with seventh rank brought another top-10-finish for Supercup-Rookie Michael Ammermüller. “My start as well as the first lap was really bad and so I lost some positions already in the initial stage of the race”, the Bavarian, who started from eighth position into the race, appeared self-critical. “In the further course my Porsche got quicker and quicker and I was able to fight back the lost ground. It’s really a pity, because without the problems at the beginning I could have claimed a much better result today.”

Amateur racer Andreas Mayerl, who with his Lechner-Porsche retired early from the race due to a blameless incident, was disappointed after his bad luck. “One of the English guest drivers hit my back and damaged one of the rims. “That’s really frustrating, because I had high ambitions for the race.”

“It was a nearly perfect weekend for the team. It is hardly impossible to do better than a double victory, we are really satisfied”, is the conclusion of team manager Walter Lechner junior. “There is no need to talk about René’s performance and the manoeuvre of Norbert Siedler was really incredible. It’s not a usual matter, to make such a move on a track which is Edwards home ground. Also Michael delivered some good fights; he is getting better and better with every race.”
